The original STRONG STAR Multidisciplinary PTSD Research Consortium was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. The Consortium to Alleviate PTSD was  jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Various STRONG STAR-affiliated projects have received funding through the DoD and VA as well as from the National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Bob Woodruff Foundation, The Boeing Company, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission through its Texas Veterans + Family Alliance Grant Program, and other sources.
